
Dr. Phillips is a true renaissance man: hall of fame college athletic, Peace Corp/Africa, chemist, U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, dentist, ordained church deacon, farmer and rancher. As a supporter of AAMOBOYS for over 15 years, Robert is now a Board Member and Southwest Region Representative.
He is a graduate of the Oklahoma University College of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree. He became the Base Dental Surgeon at Altus AFB and now owns his dental practice in Oklahoma City. Dr. Phillips also farms and ranches. He is a member of Langston University Athletic Hall of Fall, where he graduated with B.S. Mathematics; four-year football letterman; senior year most valuable player and all conference; three-year track letterman; two years on gymnastics team. After college, Robert served in the Peace Corp teaching mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics in Nigeria, Africa and received a personal letter of thanks from President John F. Kennedy. Upon returning, he was a chemist for Conoco Oil.
Robert became a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force where he earned 17 service metals. His initial duty assignment was a Research Assistant on military rockets systems. He flew over 350 combat flying hours during four tours in Southeast Asia. Lt. Colonel Phillips was one of the officers in charge of Search and Rescue Missions. He also served as a training pilot and test pilot, having the distinction of breaking the sound barrier.
Roberts quote, “I believe that the life of service is the life that counts.” Robert is the youngest son of eleven children raised on a farm near Wekumka, Oklahoma. He was an honors graduate, junior and senior class president, and two-year letterman in football, basketball and baseball at Douglass High School, Wekoka, Oklahoma. He attributes his success to his father, who passed when he was a boy, his family, and mentor Mr. Chandler from high school through his early career. He and Jacky have been married for 47 years. Their daughters are JaVonne, a managing attorney in San Diego, and Jeanna, married with two children and an investment bank vice president in the Los Angeles area. Memberships: Mason, Alpha Phi Alpha, Sigma Pi Phi, and dental, Langston and Oklahoma University associations. Also inducted in the Seminole Nation Hall of Fame where his family farm resides.
